Migration guide
Move from QuickBooks or Xero with a cutover trial balance or a full-history import.
Overview
Use the migration wizard to map your chart of accounts and choose how much history to bring into TripleBooks.
Prerequisites
- A QuickBooks or Xero connection under Settings → Integrations (or the wizard’s connect step)
- An entity with a chart of accounts — you can create accounts during mapping
Step 1: Open the wizard
Go to Accounting → Import → Migration Wizard (/accounting/import/migrate). Connect QuickBooks Online or Xero first. The wizard then loads source accounts next to TripleBooks accounts.

Step 2: Map the chart
For each source account:
- Create new — add a matching TripleBooks account
- Map to existing — link to an account you already have
- Skip — leave inactive or unused accounts behind
Filter by type (assets, liabilities, and so on), then continue.
Step 3: Choose a mode
Start from a date (cutover)
Import a trial balance as of a date and start periods from there. History stays in the old system. This is the usual cutover.
Good default: start of the current fiscal year, quarter, or month.
Import full history
Bring historical bank activity (up to the feed’s lookback) and auto-close past periods as Migrated. Use this when you want one system of record and you do not need to re-audit old periods in TripleBooks.
Step 4: Cutover review
Pick the cutover date, then review the source trial balance: names, types, mapped accounts, and that debits equal credits. Fix imbalances in the source system before you confirm.
Step 5: Confirm
Confirm & migrate posts opening balances, sets the entity go-live date, and (in cutover mode) limits bank feeds to activity on or after that date.
After you migrate
Cutover — connect banks in Treasury or Settings → Integrations, then close the first open period when it ends. Depreciation, FX, and accruals run as usual.
Full history — wait for historical sync, then close the current period. Migrated periods stay locked and count toward sequential close.
FAQ
Can I change the cutover date later? You can update it on the entity, but you will need to void and re-post opening balances. Choose carefully.
What does Migrated mean? The period holds imported history that was not independently closed in TripleBooks. Those periods cannot be reopened.
Will the bank feed pull old transactions? In cutover mode, only on or after the cutover date. In full history mode, yes, up to the provider lookback (often about two years).
Unmapped source accounts? Create them in the mapping step, skip them, or set them up in TripleBooks first and then map.
